There is one thing that will and should never be in question about our learning and growing in our faith - the Bible! So whether you are not yet a believer, or a new believer, or even an ol' yankee in the faith, we all need the reminder and lessons about how precious the Bible is!
So let's ask ourselves the first question:
What is the Bible?
The Bible is all of God's words and plan given to us to learn, prepare, and have a real relationship with him. In another sense, it's God's Revelation (revealing) to humanity of Himself and His Plans! We can read the Bible and understand His grace and just nature, and His plan of redemption, glorification, and judgement.
How can we trust the Bible?
It's fully true. Proverbs 30:5 says "Every word of God proves true; He is a shield to those who take refuge in him." It is impossible for God to lie. We can Trust that each word in the Bible is historically accurate and applies today just as it did then. Nothing in the Bible changes based on the year, or your feelings. Everything is true yesterday, 200 years ago, tomorrow, and 200 years from now.
"For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two -edged sword, piercing even to the divisions of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." - Hebrews 4:12
Not only is it true, it gets into the heart and is living and active. This helps us know that the Bible will not feed us "nothing" if you open and read a chapter or two. I love this verse because it proves that if you pray to have your heart opened, the Word of God can change your life, literally.
Following this train of thought...
Why Do we Need the Bible?
Like we just learned, it's active and powerful. It's given to us to grow in our faith and our godly living. If you call yourself a Christian and haven't truly had time humbly reading the Bible asking God to show you your heart, I pray that you do find the time to read and see what is going on in your heart. A "Christian" who doesn't read all parts of the Bible, including the hard parts, is like a tap dancer not using her tap shoes at all.
We also get to have a real relationship with God. He wants to speak to us through his Word because it is completed inspired by Him, and is revealed to us so we can know him.
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God[a] may be complete, equipped for every good work." - 2 Timothy 3:16-17
It is from God, by God, and for God. It is for us to be corrected, to be trained in righteousness, that we can be complete with EVERYTHING we need from God. Isn't that amazing? All of that - the answers to our questions, the revelation of God himself - is within our reach, in our finger tips.
So how can we treat the Bible differently now? How should we react? If you are an un-believer currently, I encourage you to open to any book in there, and see what is really going on here that is true and good. If you claim to be a Christian, but your Bible has dust on it, open it up and get to know it a little better! Use it as your heart. If you are a believer, don't get too prideful and say you no longer need it. The Bible is Timeless and always necessary, no matter who you are! Let's continue to grow in the Word by literally growing in the Word.
Pray to God to open your heart and hear what He has to say in the Word. Let yourself be humbled and corrected by His truth, and see His grace.
